Model 1894 Preußen issued Mannschaften (Other Ranks) Tschapka with Fangschnur (cords), from Schleswig-Holsteinisches Ulanen-Regt. Nr.15, garrisoned in Saarburg and part of the XXI Armee Korps. The body and top are made of very heavy leather, typical for issued examples. The exterior condition of this Tschapka is near perfect with almost flawless lacquer. It carries an Eigentumsstück (privately purchased) Feldzeichen made of a looped cord over a wooden form, with a black velvet center and backing which was an "upgrade" and not dependant on rank.

A view of the Preußen issued Wappen (front plate) in Neusilber (nickel silver) in the standard Ulanen 90mm size. Note the long tail feathers that drop straight down from the bottom of the chest, a feature particular to Ulanen Wappen. This pattern is normally found only on issued Tschapka. Ulanen Wappen normally do not have the area between the upper legs and wing feathers voided. Chest feathers on this pattern are always overlapped.

A side view of the Model 1894 Preußen issued Tschapka. Note how the back of the helmet is designed so that it curves down around the wearer's skull. As is typical for all Tschapka, only the Reich's Kokarde is carried on the right side. The left side shown here, reveals correctly, no evidence of a Kokarde.

The Ulanen Tschapka liner was unique, in having squared fingers which met in the center to form almost a closed circle. Issued Tschapka carried the same unique liner for the entire life of the Tschapka, from 1843 to 1915.

The underside of the liner carries some excellent issued markings from the Bekleidungsamt (clothing depot) of the XXI Armee Korps. The Tschapka was first issued in 1904 and clearly stamped UR15. The first two Squadrons it was issued to have been blanked out, and the final Escadron (squadron) was Nr. 4
