Pattern 1908 Web Equipment

The 1899 - 1902 Boer war clearly showed the inadequacies of the British Slade-Wallace equipment. The Pattern 1908 (P08) web equipment was introduced to address those inadequacies. The equipment was manufactured from khaki woven cotton web, and consisted of a three inch waistbelt, two braces, two cartridge pouches of five pouches each, a bayonet frog, water bottle and carrier, haversack, large pack , and entrenching tool with carrier for the head and handle. The straps on the rear of the belt and the ammo pouches connect to the haversack and E-tool carrier, and that the ends of the braces on the right (viewed on the left) connect to the buckles of the water-bottle.The haversack has two canvas buckles on the rear, which hook onto the corresponding canvas straps of the belt and ammo pouch. The large pack was not worn in combat, and is easily removed.
