After careful reassembly, our Mannschaften (Other Ranks) Model 1871 Württemberg Grenadier Regt. Nr. 119 Pickelhaube has been returned to its formal glory. The fittings which were black and dull have been cleaned to reveal a brilliant German silver. The leather shell which was filthy and dull with age, now glows beautifully.
But most importantly, and a point often ignored by those that are not trained in conservation, the artifact has been stabilized from further deterioration.
