Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regt. Nr.17
1883 to 1886 Senior NCOs Schirmmütze

Eigentumsstück (private purchase) Schirmmütze (visor cap) from Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regt. Nr.17 for an Unteroffizier mit Portepee (senior NCO with the Officer's sword knot). The all black Schirmmütze with yellow piping was only worn by Husaren-Regt. Nr.17 Unteroffizier mit Portepee until 1886. The Regiment received the Totenkopf in 1883, and received the red band in 1886 which dates the cap to three years; 1883 to 1886.
A close up of the Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regt. Nr.17 pattern Totenkopf with the correct Husaren tear-drop eyes which replicates the officer's Pelzmütze Totenkopf exactly.

The Preußen Kokarde is correct as the Regiment did not receive the Braunschweig Kokarde until 1897. The officer's pattern Kokarde would have been worn by Unteroffizier mit Portepee (Senior NCOs).
The inside of the Schirmmütze reveals a unique textured paper-cloth liner with leather sweatband.

The top of the liner has the owner's name of "Serwe" written in ink.
The manufacturer's logo of the prestigious military uniform supplier Eduard Sachs Berlin.

Also visible is a faint ink oval stamp of a costume house in Amsterdam, which makes this another artefact saved from loss thanks to a theatrical supply company.
