Conservatory Cleaning - Page 2
WARNING
Most helmets will look considerably better with just a cleaning as mentioned on the previous page and do not require these next steps. If your helmet looks good after a mild cleaning to remove dirt and grime, stop now. The following steps are considering the "full" cleaning.
Once again, I would recommend that 99% of helmets only need to be cleaned by vacuuming off the dust and/or wiping off the dirt. However, if your helmet is extremely dirty and aged from neglect, this section will show you how to 'correctly' clean it.

The subject of this cleaning will be a Mannschaften (Other Ranks) Model 1871 Württemberg Grenadier Regt. Nr. 119 Pickelhaube. This helmet, although solid and in very good condition, has been neglected for a very long time and displays poorly. The leather shell is filthy, the fittings are heavily tarnished, and the leather liner has become somewhat dry and brittle. Please click HERE to see a larger picture of this helmet. It will open in a new window.
