Baden Train Battalion 14
Schirmmütze

Baden Train Battalion 14 Schirmmütze. The flat Teller (plate) shape and the small visor is typical of pre-1900 Schirmmütze. This Schirmmütze was either made, or updated in 1897 with the addition of a Reich's Kokarde. Although not a high-quality cap, it is manufactured from a good quality dark blue doeskin wool.

The manufacturer of the Schirmmütze, is LW Weseloh Offenburg. The other oval stamp is a costumer's stamp. The main reason large numbers of uniform items survived, is due to costume shops for theatrical use. On a personal note, I have been to Offenburg many times and it is an exceptionally beautiful and friendly German city.
