Geschützeturme Bottoms Complete
Two Geschützeturme bottoms were cast and the 28cm Geschützerohr were bolted in place. Despite my best effort to make sure the 28cm Geschützerohr sat straight and true before making the mold, they required a few shims to be perfectly straight.

28cm Platform As the bases for the 28cm were simply round armoured bases, my good friend Stephen Case-Pall was kind enough to cut me two disks from hardwood in the exact dimensions. Once sanded, sealed, and primed, they were ready to use.

Making the Rings Period photos show that around the opening for the 28cm Geschützerohr (barrels), were small rings that held on a foul weather cover that kept the water and wind out of the interior gun chamber. I ordered rings from several different companies and they were all much too large, so I decided that I had to make my own to get the correct size. I stripped an electrical cord to obtain a single strand of copper wire which was then looped over a tiny drill bit (the smaller the drill, the smaller the ring) clamped at the bottom, and spun until I had a small ring.
The originals of the illustrations to the right were made by Tomasz Gronczewski for an on-line article he did for model aircraft. Unfortunately, I was unable to contact him to ask if I could use these images, so I decided to use them, and hope that he would be pleased to see that they are still be used, but this time on a ship model.
