A Huge Difference
For the bow, the VTH plans had the nose of the bow considerably higher than the original ship. This picture shows the bow that I made with VTH plans compared with a correct bow template from the SMS Deutschland drawings. This photograph was taken before I trimmed the 10mm off the top.

Where to start?
This photograph has the template overlapping the "high nose" showing how much extra material I would have to add onto the bottom. To accomplish this, I cut out a square area and glued in more sections of laminated hardwood, and re-carved the bow. It annoyed me greatly to do this, as I had spent hours carefully sanding the bow to match the flawed VTH plans.

Grinding it Down Again
As the front of the hull I had made was too wide, the bow needed to be narrower. Here the bow is taking shape with the help of a sanding drum on my drill. Note that after the curve of the front bow had been corrected, I placed a strip of red pin striping down the centreline of the bow. This prevented me from sanding over that centreline.
